Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Akagera National Park, boat cruise, and a night game drive
On day 1 of the 5 Days Primates and Wildlife Safari in Rwanda, at an agreed location in Kigali City, you will be met by your guide who will transfer you to Akagera National Park to take part in a short game drive which will give you the chance to watch a number of animal species like the early risers grazing and enjoying the morning sun. Day 2: Full-day game drive
On day 2 of the 5 Days Primates and Wildlife Safari in Rwanda, rise up early in the morning have breakfast and go for a morning game drive with great anticipation of seeing the different animals that rise early to graze and predators looking for their early morning kill, especially the big cats like the leopard, lions, and many other carnivores. Day 4: Gorilla trek in Volcanoes National Park.
On day 4 of the 5 Days Primates and Wildlife Safari in Rwanda, as early as 6 am, you will be expected to be up for breakfast and ready to set off for the trek. Our guide will meet you after having your breakfast and your lunches packed and he will take you to Kinigi Headquarters where you are expected to be given a brief before starting the gorilla trek. This brief is done at 7 am. You are given guidelines during this brief before you are allowed to start the trek. This gorilla trek can take to about 2 hours to half a day as it’s unpredictable. When you finally find the gorillas, you will have to maintain a 7-meter distance and you are allowed one hour to admire and take photos of the gorillas.
After the trek, you will have lunch and be taken back to your hotel as the night before to relax and reminisce on the experience. You can also embark on visiting one of the markets near the park to enjoy engaging with the local people understanding more about their culture. After the experience, you will head back to your hotel for dinner and overnight will be as the night before
Day 5: Golden Monkey trekking and the Ellen fund/ Dian Fossey fund
You will enjoy an early morning breakfast and transfer to the park headquarters with your packed lunch and bottled drinking water for a briefing by the park ranger guides at 7:00 am. After the briefing, you will start your gorilla trekking journey accompanied by the ranger guides in search of the mountain gorillas; this takes 2 to 8 hours depending on the movement of the gorillas. The guides will try to find them from where they were last seen the previous day! You will spend 1 hour with these gentle giants and later return to your lodge to refresh and relax. After the safari experience, you will head back to Kigali city where you will be dropped off at Hotel des Mille Collines.
