DETAILED ITINERARY
DAY 1: PICK UP AND TRANSFER TO RUHENGERI.
On your first day with us according to this itinerary you will be met by our representative who will pick you up from the airport or your preferred location. You will be taken for a city tour, visiting the Rwanda genocide memorial grounds, some craft shops and your driver guide will give you some information on the culture and history of Rwanda. You will also have lunch depending on your time of arrival. After enjoying Kigali, you will then embark on a journey to your hotel nearer to Volcanoes National park the home of these endangered species to rest and prepare for the trek the next morning. DAY 2: GORILLA TREK IN VOLCANOES NATIONAL PARK.
As early at 6am, you will be expected to be up for breakfast and ready to set off for the trek. Our guide will meet you after having your breakfast and your lunches packed and he will take you to Kinigi Headquarters where you are expected to be given a brief before starting the gorilla trek. This brief is done at 7am. You are given guidelines during this brief before you are allowed to start the trek. This gorilla trek can take to about 2 hours to half a day as it’s unpredictable. When you finally find the gorillas, you will have to maintain a 6 meters distance and you are allowed one hour to admire and take photos of the gorillas. After the trek, you will have lunch and taken back to your hotel as the night before to relax and reminisce on the experience. You can ask the guide in case you want to have another activity in the evening at your own cost and he will advise. You may go for an optional Iby’iwacu Cultural Visit to understand more about the culture of the people of Rwanda visiting the different. Dinner and overnight will be at the same hotel as the night before.
DAY 3: TRANSFER TO AKAGERA NATIONAL PARK AND IHEMA BOAT CRUISE.
You will be met by your driver guide at your agreed location in Kigali to transfer to Akagera national park where you will arrive in time to participate in the afternoon boat cruise on Lake Ihema where you will see game like hippopotamuses, Crocodiles and many bird species like the endangered shoe bill stork, African King fishers catching their prey from the Lake that live around the lake and the surrounding swamps. Transfer to your pack for dinner and overnight stay at Karenge bush camp(budget) Akagera game lodge (mid-range)
DAY 4: MORNING BOAT CRUISE, GAME DRIVE AND TRANSFER TO KIGALI.
Rise up early and go and take part in the early morning boat cruise in Akagera national park to watch more attractions in the wild and after you will also get to participate in game drive with great anticipation of seeing the different animals like the herbivores, the big five animals in Rwanda which rise early to graze and predators looking for their early morning kill. After the game drive, return to connect with your driver guide to embark on your transfer back to Kigali. If you didn’t have a city tour on the first day, you may have it on this day before you are dropped off in Kigali or at the airport as you may advise.
