Detailed Itinerary
Day 1: Transfer to Nyungwe Forest National Park
In the morning, you will be picked by the driver from your hotel in Kigali and drive southwards to Nyungwe Forest National Park. You will have a stop over in Butare, where you will visit the National Museum of Rwanda and the king’s palace in Nyanza with lunch en route. Dinner and overnight at Gisakura Visitor Centre (budget )/ Nyungwe Top Hill View Hotel (mid-range)
Day 2: Chimpanzee tracking
Enjoy breakfast and go for a briefing about the endangered chimpanzees before entering the forest in search of the active and playful fellows in Nyungwe forest. The Chimpanzees are much easier to spot as they jump from one tree to another, chattering and laughing. Chimpanzee trekking in Rwanda usually takes about 3 hours. To find them, spend an hour while taking pictures and videos. You will then return to your hotel to freshen up, have lunch check out embark on a 5 hour drive back to Kigali city for dinner and overnight stay at Hotel des Mille Collines
Day 3: Transfer to Volcanoes National Park and afternoon community tour
You will be met by your driver guide at your agreed location in Kigali city to transfer to Volcanoes National Park where you will arrive in time to participate in Ibyi’wacu cultural village tour. Have a guided walk around the village at the different sites that exhibit the different aspects of the people of the village to gain insight into the interesting features of the culture of the people of Rwanda. You will get to see the replica of the king’s palace where you will get to see the architecture that they used during the olden times which involves the use of grass and cow dung to establish strong house structures. At the king’s palace, you will get to see a medicine man who is mixing a number of herbs that were used to cure a number of diseases like bareness and impotence, stomach upsets, fever and many more. If you’re interested, you can also get involved in mixing the herbs which will give you an authentic experience. After the experience head to your hotel for dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Mount Bisoke hike
After an early morning breakfast at your hotel, you will make your way to Volcanoes National Park to participate in mount bisoke hike but before you embark on the hike, you will get to participate in the briefing session of the rules to follow the rules and regulations during your safari experience hiking one of the Virunga mountains in Rwanda. While hiking Mount Bisoke you will watch a number of attractions like the different Albertine endemic bird species, you will have access to the numerous primates in the wild and on reaching the summit, you will discover a beautiful crater lake and the whole experience is overwhelming! Along the trail, you will discover a lot of birdlife and captivating scenery – the reason Rwanda is referred to as the “land of a thousand hills”. After the hike, you will have lunch and transfer to Kigali city where time allows, you will visit the genocide museum and later transfer to the airport for your onward flight or be dropped at your hotel in Kigali and the end of your Rwanda safari
